 International Day of Yoga, 2021

The day has been celebrated annually in VKV Dibrugarh. This is the second consecutive year that this day is celebrated digitally. About 40 participants (teachers and students) gathered in the vidyalaya premises to conduct the programme.

A series of asanas, surya namaskar, kriya and pranayam was led by our teachers Sri Biren Saikia and Smt. Nanda Sahu. This was followed by a Yoga Geet by 3 students namely, Trishna Dutta, Annesha Das and Apsara Paul.

He said that Yoga is India’s precious gift to the world and that it is one aspect with which one can enhance one’s scope of progress. Yoga is a part of us and we at Vivekananda Kendra live by it and this was communicated through a 10-day yoga satra which was conducted virtually from our vidyalaya as run-up preceding this notable event in which over 80 participants joined each day. 4 Bouddhik Satra was held on alternate days. Daily after the yoga demonstration, the guests explained the different parts of Ashtanga Yoga - yama, niyama, asana, pranayama, dharna, dhyana, samadhi. Principal sir also emphasized that Yoga is not just a form of physical exercise, it’s a way of life and by walking on this path one can reach moksh (spiritual liberation) through Karma Yoga.

At Vivekananda Kendra there are many such life-workers. Kum. Priyamvada Pande didi, a life- worker at Vivekanda Kendra joined us today from Kanyakumari. She in her speech highlighted many aspects keeping in view this year’s theme ‘Yoga for Wellness’. During this pandemic situation many individuals have become victim to stress, anxiety and depression. She said that it is important to have a union of body, mind and spirit to overcome this stress. This connection is getting weaker and weaker and it can only be strengthened with yoga.

All in all it was a great show where over 150 participants joined through Google meet platform and the programme was also live streamed on You Tube.
