Lachit Divas
Being a
school holiday on Sunday (24th November, 2019), VKV Dibrugarh
celebrated Lachit Divas on Monday (25th November, 2019) honouring the
memory of Ahom General Lachit Borphukan. Veer Lachit was a commander in the
Ahom Kingdom in Assam and he is celebrated for his leadership and valour in the
1671 Battle of Sairaighat. All the students and teachers gathered in the
assembly hall where the teachers conducted the daily prayer.
The
observation began with offering floral tribute at the portrait of Veer Lachit
Borphukan. A patriotic song was sung by a group of students. A speech was delivered
by Sri R.M. Thakre, Vice Principal, VKV Dibrugarh in which he highlighted Lachit’s
victory over the Mughals in the Battle of Saraighat. Significance of the day
was given by Smt. Rita Dowerah & Smt. Mamu Gogoi , Teachers of VKV Dibrugarh.
A group of
secondary students enacted a drama where they portrayed the event of the Battle
of Saraighat and showed how they won the battle in Lachit’s reign.
